The Meixoeiro University School of Nursing is located in the premises of the Hospital do Meixoeiro, is part of the Integrated Management Management of Vigo and is a University training teaching center attached to the University of Vigo, being the Ministry of Health who is responsible for the managerial and technical-administrative aspects of the same and to the University of Vigo the teaching aspects. It was created in 1977 by the National Institute of Health, the Organization that held, at that time, ownership of the mentioned Management, as the School of Diplomas in Nursing (DUE) and was linked academically to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Happens to depend in 1990 on the University of Vigo, as a School attached to it and, from of the year 2009, due to changes in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), when the Nursing Degree that it hosts annually is gradually implemented, approximately two hundred students.
On November 25, 1999, the School achieved accreditation as a Teaching Unit for the training of specialists in Mental Health Nursing, beginning to teach the teaching in the year 2000, ending in 2016, the date on which the Teaching Commission of the Integrated Management Office of Vigo took charge of it.
The School has, for its government, single-person management bodies, such as the Directorate, the Academic Secretariat and the Delegation of the University and two governing bodies members, the Board of Trustees and the School Board. It also has collegiate bodies of participation as the Cloister.
